Red Lentil Dal

Comforting red lentils simmered with turmeric and topped with sizzling spiced oil.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils, rinsed
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 tsp salt

Make it

  1. Simmer lentils, water and turmeric 20 minutes, stirring, until soft and creamy.
  2. Stir in tomatoes and salt and simmer 5 minutes more.
  3. Heat oil, sizzle cumin seeds and garlic until golden, then pour over the dal.
